OnHand’s 10 Good Volunteering Acts

This summer, we’re hosting one of our biggest good-deed volunteering campaigns ever.

For the months of July and August, we’re focused on completing as many good acts as possible. What counts as a good act? Well, pretty much anything on the OnHand app!

We don’t want to limit your do-good deeds, so we’ve set a pretty simple goal for the summer: complete 10 missions or pledges on the OnHand app between 1 July and 31 August, and be in the running for some fab prizes. Of course, you can do more than 10 actions if you’d like (in fact, we encourage it!), but make sure you cross that 10-action mark to be a winner.

What can I do for 10 Good Acts?

Even though any of our actions count towards your 10 Good Volunteering Acts, there are a few campaigns we reckon you’ll be interested in. Check them out:

Plastic Free July

We’re on a mission to go plastic free this July. By cutting out plastic, you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint and preventing tonnes of non-biodegradable waste going into landfill, which in turn impacts wildlife and ecosystems.

To start with:

🛍️ Swap plastic bags for reusable bags

💧 Ditch single-use water bottles for a reusable one

♻️ Become a Zero Hero – ditch all single-use plastic for a week

Youth Mentoring

Youths with mentors are 92% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities. It’s now more important than ever to show support for the youngest and most vulnerable members of our society. Pick up one of these actions as part of your 10 Good Acts:

📺 Watch our ‘Youth Mentoring with The Youth Group’ bitesize talk

💰 Donate to a youth charity of your choice

🍳 Become a Bags of Taste mentor and teach somebody how to cook

Refugee Support

More than 100 million people around the world have been displaced from their homes. Conflict, poverty, and the climate crisis drive so many people from their homes and into unknown places. We’re promoting refugee support to encourage everyone  to be a little kinder to refugees in our communities.

To show your support, you can:

✍️ Write a letter to a refugee

💰 Donate to a refugee charity of your choice

✉️ Help a refugee write a CV

International Friendship Day

It’s the loveliest day of the year! International Friendship Day takes place on 30 July and we’re dedicating the day to fighting loneliness.

This International Friendship Day:

☎️ Make a companionship call to an older or isolated person

🍽️ Have a social meal with friends or family

☕ Buy a hot drink or meal for a person experiencing homelessness

World Water Week

World Water Week closes our 10 Good Acts at the end of August. It’s a week to focus on our water usage, examine where we waste water, and pick up good habits to prevent losing one of our most precious resources.

For starters:

🚿 Cut excess water usage by taking a 2-minute shower

🍽️ Go for the eco option when putting your dishwasher on

🚽 Check your loo for any leaks, and put a stop to it!

And the prizes?

Anyone who completes 10 Good Acts will earn 10 extra trees in their company forest. Makes sense, right? But for our top 3 do-gooders, we’ve got even better rewards:

🥇 The person who completes the most Good Acts will win 100 trees!

🥈 The person who completes the second most Good Acts will win 50 trees!

🥉 The person who completes the third most Good Acts will win 30 trees!

Of course, you don’t have to commit to these particular causes for our 10 Good Acts, but we think they sound pretty good. And don’t forget about our fab prizes on the line, all in exchange for doing some good for people and planet.

Take part in 10 Good Acts from 1 July to 30 August, and let’s make a difference in our communities!
